Why go

The Milanese architect Alfredo Campanini built Villa Bernasconi in 1906 for Davide Bernasconi, a silk manufacturer: silkworms, butterflies, mulberry berries and leaves decorate the facades and the interiors, in moulded cement, wrought iron and coloured glass. It is the heart of an early twentieth-century silk complex, with the workers' houses and the company nursery school. Today it is a municipal museum in which the house itself tells, in the first person, its story and that of the people who lived there, among objects, documents and multisensory installations.

  • The villa's Art Nouveau is intact inside and out, with silk motifs: silkworms, butterflies and mulberry leaves.
  • An hour's visit, ten minutes' walk from Cernobbio's pier.
