Why go

The Museo Medardo Rosso in Barzio holds the artist's sculptures, photographs and drawings in a seventeenth-century church.

After his father's death in 1928, Francesco Rosso gathered works from the Paris and Milan studios here. He founded the museum with help from Piero Portaluppi, who also advised him on the house on the same plot. The collection includes Malato all'ospedale and Enfant au sein. Different versions of a subject show how Rosso used plaster, wax and bronze to vary its size, colour and perception.

  • Medardo Rosso's sculptures, in the town where his son chose to keep them.
  • A small private museum in the Valsassina: write to the museum to arrange a visit.

Highlights

  • The Ecce Puer (1906)
  • The Femme à la voilette (1893)
  • The Conversation in the Garden (1896)
  • The old oratory, adapted with Piero Portaluppi

Getting there

  • It is at Via Baruffaldi 4 in Barzio, in the Valsassina; from Lecco the road climbs into the valley by way of Ballabio.
