Why go

Villa Gomes is the eclectic residence of Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Gomes in Maggianico, part of Lecco.

Originally called Villa Brasilia, it was built in 1880–1881 to Attilio Bolla's design. The raised ground floor retains its Venetian terrazzo floor with the words “Pro Brasilia”, a lyre and a laurel wreath. Monumental steps face towards the lake, and the public park covers about 37,000 square metres. After passing to the Moldenhauer family and a period of neglect, the municipality bought the villa in 1971 and restored it in the 1980s. Since 1987 it has housed the Giuseppe Zelioli civic music institute. The music library holds the Giorgio Gaslini archive and books and records from the Giacomo De Santis collection.

  • The century-old park, open to the public, with its great trees and glimpses of the lake.
