Why go

Villa Manzoni is the family house at Caleotto in Lecco where Alessandro Manzoni spent his childhood.

The complex combines the main residence, farm buildings and a park. Pietro Manzoni commissioned its remodelling between 1773 and 1779; the façade retains sandstone mouldings. In 1818 the writer sold the property to Giuseppe Scola, a silk manufacturer. It later passed to the municipality of Lecco and houses the Museo Manzoniano. On the ground floor, furniture, paintings, prints, documents, photographs and period books explore the writer's family and works.

  • It shows how much of the novel's geography matches real places.
  • The museum is indoors.
