Como harbour

Como harbour, at the end of the lake's south-western branch, with the cathedral dome and the Brunate hill. The photochrom was printed by Photoglob of Zurich after 1894, as it shows the Brunate funicular, opened that year; the photograph dates from 2020.

A late nineteenth-century photochrom: Como from the lake, with a long pier, a stone breakwater, a steamboat, the cathedral dome and the Brunate hill with the straight line of the funicular.

What the two pictures show

The cathedral dome and the outline of the hill are the same. In the photochrom the hillside has few trees, and the straight line of the funicular climbs to Brunate; in front of the town are a long pier and a stone breakwater. In the photograph the hill is covered in woods, with houses on its lower slopes, and the harbour is full of motorboats.
