Why go

San Martino, Perledo's parish church, was built between 1614 and shortly before 1628.

The church is octagonal and covered by a dome; the square apse has a round dome of its own too, and two rectangular chapels with barrel vaults open at the sides. The eighteenth-century facade is laid out with cornices, pilasters, niches and shaped openings; the sides have shaped buttresses and are crowned by small hanging arches. Inside, cornices, pilasters, stucco and frescoes cover the walls and the dome. The confessional and the baptistery, in a round niche, are seventeenth-century; the altar of coloured marbles is eighteenth-century. The church stands on the village square and is reached only on foot.

  • From the village, at about four hundred metres above sea level, you look down on Lario.
