Why go

Villa Trivulzio is a Neoclassical residence on Bellagio's shore, between Loppia and San Giovanni.

Count Paolo Taverna built it in the late eighteenth century; Francesco Melzi d'Eril stayed here while nearby Villa Melzi was under construction. In the nineteenth century the Poldi Pezzoli added two wings linked by galleries. Giuseppe Balzaretti turned the formal Italian garden into an English landscape park. The property later passed to the Trivulzio and, in 1941, the Gerli. The park retains the Poldi Pezzoli's Gothic Revival mausoleum and the Romanesque church of Santa Maria di Loppia.

  • One of Bellagio's historic villas, bound up with the story of Villa Melzi and the Poldi Pezzoli family.
  • The English park and the Romanesque bell tower of Loppia, seen from the lake.

Highlights

  • The neoclassical block with its two wings
  • Giuseppe Balzaretti's English park

  • The Romanesque church in the park

Getting there

  • It stands on the shore south of Bellagio's centre, on Via Paolo Carcano, between Loppia and San Giovanni; being private, it is seen from outside, above all from the lake.
