Two days based in Como: the historic centre, Sant'Abbondio, rationalist buildings and an evening at the Teatro Sociale if the programme allows.

On the second day, take the funicular to Brunate; on clear days the view reaches the Alps. The funicular runs every day of the year and climbs in seven minutes.

Worth knowing

  • In winter Villa Carlotta and the gardens of Villa Melzi are closed; in Como the park of Villa Olmo is open every day.
  • In winter the boats run fewer services and the last evening sailing leaves much earlier than in summer: look it up in the Navigazione Laghi timetable before leaving Como by boat.
  • Mountain roads can close for snow or ice.
