The Tremezzina and the Isola Comacina

The Isola Comacina, the lake's only island, and the Tremezzina bay seen from above, with the Lavedo peninsula beyond. The photochrom, titled “Bacino di Tremezzina”, was printed by Photoglob of Zurich between 1890 and 1900; the photograph, taken from the slopes above Sala Comacina, dates from 2024.

A late nineteenth-century photochrom: the Tremezzina bay from above, with the tree-covered Isola Comacina, the Lavedo peninsula, the shore with fields and small villages, and mountains behind.

What the two pictures show

The tree-covered island and the Lavedo peninsula have the same shape. On the shore facing the island, between Ossuccio and Lenno, the photochrom shows fields and small clusters of houses; in the photograph the houses follow one another almost without a break as far as the peninsula.
