Why go

On the Colma di Sormano, the 1,124-metre pass where the Muro ends, stands the astronomical observatory: a dome at 1,128 metres on top of an old stone mountain hut, with the new centre and its planetarium beside it. Visitors see the telescope and its control room, look at the Sun and visit a small museum of asteroids; when the sky is clear they observe the visible celestial bodies through the telescope, with planetarium shows between sessions.

  • The sky through a telescope, explained by people who study it, less than an hour's drive from Como.
  • It goes with the Muro di Sormano, which climbs right up to it, and with the Pian del Tivano.
