Why go

San Giorgio is a Romanesque church beside Bellagio's town hall, dated to the late eleventh or early twelfth century.

Its south wall retains squared stone blocks, small windows and a portal. The bell tower stands above the portico that guarded an entrance through the medieval walls. The positions of the altar and entrance were later reversed. The chapter room holds walnut choir stalls and a fresco of the Virgin giving a belt to a monk. Since 1658 the local confraternity has been linked to devotion to Our Lady of the Belt, depicted in the church's statue.

  • A glimpse of the medieval village in the centre of Bellagio, a short walk from San Giacomo.
  • The bell tower over the old passage through the walls.
