Why go

San Vincenzo is Gravedona's old parish church, beside Santa Maria del Tiglio.

The Romanesque church, consecrated in 1072, was transformed in the Baroque period, with work in 1600 and 1627.

The polygonal choir dates from 1726. The complex includes the crypt of Sant'Antonio and the oratories of Santa Marta and San Michele; it has no bell tower. The sacristy holds the treasury and a parchment of 931. Two paintings of Saint Vincent's Martyrdom from 1745 hang in the chancel; Luigi Tagliaferri decorated the church in 1889.

  • Santa Maria del Tiglio is next door: the two churches are visited together.
  • A short walk from the lake.

Highlights

  • The arcade in front of the facade
  • The crypt of Sant'Antonio
  • The Martyrdom of Saint Vincent of 1745

Getting there

  • Next to Santa Maria del Tiglio, on the lake at Gravedona; boats call at Gravedona, and the Regina road buses pass by.

Accessibility

  • The walk through the centre of Gravedona, which starts at the little harbour and passes the sacred precinct where San Vincenzo stands beside Santa Maria del Tiglio, is easy going and suitable for people with reduced mobility too.
