Christmas in the heart of Gravedona ed Uniti
The nativity trail through the whole village, the lakefront lit up and the “1000 luci sul lago” on Christmas Eve, from early December to Epiphany.
Gravedona ed Uniti
The Baroque oratory of the Madonna de la Soledad faces Piazza Mazzini, the old Carale quay, on Gravedona's lakefront.
It was commissioned by Giovan Battista Giovannini, born in the village in 1636, who became personal surgeon in Spain to Don John of Austria, son of Philip IV. After returning to Lake Como, he dedicated the oratory to the Madonna de la Soledad, whom he had venerated in Spain. The painting of the Christ of Burgos shows the crucified Christ wearing a long embroidered white cloth, following a Spanish tradition; it is also known as the Christ with a skirt. Formerly owned by the Motti family, the church was donated to the municipality of Gravedona ed Uniti and remains consecrated.
