Christmas in the heart of Gravedona ed Uniti
The nativity trail through the whole village, the lakefront lit up and the “1000 luci sul lago” on Christmas Eve, from early December to Epiphany.
Gravedona ed Uniti
Gravedona's Romanesque church on the lakeshore, in bands of white and black stone, with the bell tower rising from the middle of the facade.
Santa Maria del Tiglio, on the lakeshore at Gravedona, began as a baptistery.
It was built in the twelfth century in place of an early Christian baptistery, whose remains, with fragments of mosaic, came to light in the excavations of 1953. The plan is square, with three apses, and a gallery runs round the inside walls at the height of the apses. The walls alternate bands of white Musso marble and dark stone. The bell tower rises from the middle of the facade, above the doorway: its base is square, its octagonal upper part was completed in the sixteenth century, and the tower stands almost 35 metres high. Inside are a fourteenth-century Last Judgement on the entrance wall, frescoes of saints from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and a large twelfth-century wooden crucifix.
