Val d'Intelvi

The mule track to Erbonne

An hour and twenty minutes through the woods of the Valle Intelvi, from La Bolla above Casasco to the small village of Erbonne: level at first, then gently downhill, past a pond, the stone ice houses and old farm houses, with a glimpse of the lake and Monte San Zeno.

How it works

The mule track runs entirely through the woods to Erbonne.

You start from La Bolla, in Centro Valle Intelvi, not far from the old ski lifts of Monte Crocione, and follow the mule track: the first stretch is level, the rest gently downhill. Almost at once a glimpse opens of Lake Como with Monte San Zeno; then you pass a bolla, a pond, the ice houses once used to keep food and old stone farm houses. The last stretch looks out over the small village of Erbonne, which you reach a few steps later.

  1. The starting point is La Bolla: from Piazza Carminati at San Fedele, in Centro Valle Intelvi, take the provincial road towards Lanzo, turn left for Casasco after the shopping centre and, before the village, right into Via Fratelli Terragni as far as the lay-by just before the La Bolla sign, where you leave the car.
  2. On the way out the mule track is level and then gently downhill: the way back, by the same route, is uphill.
