Why go

The Castello di San Lorenzo overlooks Nesso's Castello district with a stone wall up to fifteen metres high supporting an embankment.

It survives from the fortification built by the people of Como in 1449 over an older structure, in support of the Ambrosian Republic. The castle was destroyed in 1532. The three turrets and swallowtail battlements facing the lake are nineteenth-century additions. Beside it stands San Lorenzo church, recorded in 1184 and rebuilt in the sixteenth century. The castle complex is privately owned and can be seen from outside.

  • The crenellated walls above the village and the gorge, with the story of the Medeghino.
  • The church of San Lorenzo, partly built into the walls.
