Why go

The church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, in Nesso's Borgovecchio, is the mother church of the old pieve.

The Baroque building was rebuilt from 1632 into the eighteenth century; tradition links the earlier church to a consecration by Pope Urban II in 1095. The two-tier façade has statues of the two saints in niches and God the Father in the pediment. Inside, four chapels open off the nave. Saint Joseph's chapel has frescoes attributed to Carlo Innocenzo Carloni; Onorato Andina painted the chancel in 1854. The furnishings include a fifteenth-century wooden crucifix and a case holding the supposed remains of Bishop Rainaldo.

  • The church you see arriving at Nesso by boat, its bell tower high above the houses.
  • A Baroque church rich in paintings, a short walk from the Orrido and the Civera bridge.
