Why go

The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta was begun in 1396 and completed in 1740, and it brings together Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque, from the Gothic doorway to Filippo Juvarra's eighteenth-century dome.

The facade is the work of the Rodari, and on it sit the statues of Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger, two pagan writers born in Como. Sixteenth-century Flemish and Italian tapestries hang in the nave. The Broletto stands beside the cathedral.
