Why go

The Istituto Giosuè Carducci was designed by the architect Cesare Mazzocchi and opened on 20 September 1910 as the home of Pro Cultura popolare, an association founded in 1903 to bring culture to the working classes.

Among its initiatives, the Guido Casartelli travelling teaching museum was based here. In September 1927, for the celebrations of the first centenary of Volta's death, the natural sciences hall hosted the International Congress of Physicists, with twelve Nobel prize winners: it has been called the Nobel Room ever since. Today the room houses the Casartelli Science Museum, a small teaching museum founded in 1917, with frescoes inspired by nature and medallions of the congress's Nobel laureates.
