Why go

The monument is the work of the Milanese sculptor Gianni Colombo and was unveiled on 28 May 1983 by President Sandro Pertini.

It stands in the lakeside gardens, on the Lungolago Mafalda di Savoia, a few steps from the Tempio Voltiano. A stairway between two sloping walls leads into an enclosure. It holds stones from the Nazi camps and from the city of Hiroshima, and plates bearing the words written by people condemned to death in the Second World War.

  • The words of those condemned to death, in the middle of Como's lakefront.
  • The path between the sloping walls, in the lakeside gardens beside the Tempio Voltiano.
