Why go

The Novocomum is an apartment building by Giuseppe Terragni, built between 1927 and 1929, among Como's first Rationalist works.

Its ship-like form earned it the local name Transatlantico, or ocean liner; it is a national monument. It remains a private residential building, with interiors accessible on organised visits. From the street you can see the rounded balconies at the corners. It stands a short walk from the war memorial and the stadium, on Viale Sinigaglia.

  • Terragni's Rationalism before the Casa del Fascio, in a house to live in.
  • Five minutes' walk from the lakefront, on the way to the war memorial.

Highlights

  • The rounded corners with their balconies
  • The facade as long as a ship's side

Getting there

  • On foot from the lakefront towards the Sinigaglia stadium: the building is at Viale Sinigaglia 1.
