Miniartextil
An international exhibition of contemporary textile art, every autumn in Como.
Como
The monument was inaugurated on 4 November 1933 in memory of Como's dead of the Great War, among them the Futurist architect Antonio Sant'Elia, killed at the front in 1916.
In 1930 Marinetti proposed building it from a 1914 drawing by Sant'Elia for a power station. Enrico Prampolini prepared a design and Attilio Terragni took it forward; with the work under way, Giuseppe Terragni simplified it, chose the stones and designed the crypt. The thirty-metre tower is of pale stone and stands on the lakefront beside the Tempio Voltiano. Inside, a forty-tonne monolith carries the names of six hundred and fifty of the fallen, and a narrow stair climbs to the top, from where you see the city, the harbour and the lake's first basin.
