Why go

The Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is the sports complex on Como's lakefront, originally designed by Giovanni Greppi.

Work began in October 1926 and it was inaugurated on 30 July 1927. Its name commemorates the Como athlete and wartime volunteer Giuseppe Sinigaglia. In the 1930s Gianni Mantero transformed the frontage and added a swimming pool, gymnasium and offices. The stands were raised in the late 1940s; in the 1980s and 1990s the western end was enlarged and the main stand refurbished.

  • A piece of rationalist Como, between the Novocomum and the war memorial.
  • The stadium with the mountains behind its stands, a few steps from the water.

Highlights

  • Mantero's semicircular glass wall with the diving tower
  • Greppi's 1927 stadium
  • The Canottieri Lario next door

Getting there

  • At Via Giuseppe Sinigaglia 2, on the lakefront west of the centre, between the Tempio Voltiano and the seaplane hangar.
