Como
The Aero Club Como's hangar on the lakefront, recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest seaplane club, with aircraft landing and taking off in front of the town.
Seaplanes have taken off from the lake at Como for more than a century: in 1913, less than three years after the first seaplane flight, the town held the Gran Premio dei Laghi, won by Roland Garros.
Today it is the only one of the historic places of water flying where seaplanes still fly regularly. It is home to the Aero Club Como, founded in 1930: Guinness World Records recognises it as the oldest seaplane club in the world, and it is also a flying school. The iron hangar, with the wide apron in front, belongs to the Cittadella dello Sport laid out by the Rationalists in the 1930s and faces the lakefront, a short walk from the centre. The fleet holds aircraft from the club's history: a Piper PA-18, with the club since 1966, a Cessna 206 on floats and a 1946 Republic Seabee amphibian.
