Why go

Life Electric is a stainless-steel sculpture by Daniel Libeskind dedicated to Alessandro Volta, inaugurated in 2015 at the tip of the Piero Caldirola breakwater.

Its two opposing wave-shaped curves evoke the voltage between the terminals of a battery. The surfaces reflect the sky and water. The Tempio Voltiano on the shore and the Faro Voltiano above Brunate also commemorate Volta. Libeskind gave the design to the city; the Amici di Como association promoted its construction and the renewal of the breakwater. It is reached on foot along the breakwater from the Lungolago Mafalda di Savoia.

  • A walk out over the water to the middle of the first basin, Como behind you and the mountains ahead.
  • The steel surfaces reflect the sky and water around the breakwater.
