Why go

Our Lady of Fatima is a seventeenth-century church in central Gera Lario, built for the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary and originally dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.

The building dates from 1614–1634; its chancel paintings were completed in 1725 with support from local fishermen. Damaged by the flood of 1951, it was restored at Don Luigi Bianchi's initiative and reconsecrated on 13 May 1962 by Bishop Felice Bonomini as the Fishermen's Sanctuary. João Pereira Venâncio, Bishop of Leiria, later consecrated the two side altars, establishing the spiritual link with Fatima. Inside are a single nave, two side chapels and an image of the Virgin from Fatima. The outer walls are bare stone and brick; the roof is covered in Valmalenco stone slabs.

  • Gera's fishermen's church, restored after the flood of 1951 and twinned with Fatima.
  • On the village square, along the walk through the lanes and their devotional frescoes.
