Why go

San Vincenzo is a Romanesque church in Gera Lario, built in the eleventh and twelfth centuries on the site of a Roman villa, beside the stream of the same name.

The inscribed stele in the doorway and the second-century mosaic found during restoration in 1964–1965 document the Roman past. Rebuilt in the fifteenth century, it has a single nave with transverse arches and a rectangular chancel. A portico precedes the gabled façade, topped by small terracotta arches. Chancel frescoes of 1546 depict Evangelists, Doctors of the Church and scenes from Saint Vincent's life. The 1547 polyptych on the high altar includes the Annunciation, Madonna and Child and Crucifixion. Luigi Tagliaferri completed the Virgin's story on the triumphal arch in the nineteenth century.
