Why go

Laglio's pyramid is the funerary monument of the physician Joseph Frank (1771–1842), a pupil of Alessandro Volta and a lecturer at the University of Pavia.

It was built between 1850 and 1851 and inaugurated in June 1852, when his remains were moved here from the nearby cemetery. About twenty metres high, it has three Egyptian-style portals and a marble medallion with Frank's portrait; the façade inscription bears the year 1851. Frank had proposed a pyramid in Como as a monument to Volta, but the committee chose another design. He later reused the form for his own tomb, inspired by the Pyramid of Cestius in Rome.

  • An Egyptian-style pyramid above a lake village.
  • A mausoleum inspired by the Pyramid of Cestius in Rome.
