Why go

San Bartolomeo is Sala Comacina's parish church, medieval in origin and independent of the parish of Isola since 1848.

Its apse was rebuilt in 1703. The single-nave church holds three frescoes removed from the outer walls, including a fourteenth-century Saint Christopher. In the chancel are the altarpiece of the Virgin and Child with saints by Giovanni Mauro della Rovere, known as Fiammenghino, installed in the 1630s, and wooden choir stalls of the same period. Carlo Carloni painted the Glory of Saint Bartholomew on the vault. The chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary retains an altar, statues and small paintings from the late eighteenth century. Giovanni Franzetti's organ, dated 1874, has 530 pipes in total.

  • Three frescoes removed from the outer walls and preserved inside, with the vault painted by Carlo Carloni.
  • Above the old village that drops to the lake, a few minutes from the pier.
