Tremezzina
The Romanesque church of Ospedaletto's medieval hospice, on the Via Regina opposite Isola Comacina, its bell tower crowned by a late-Gothic belfry of stone and brick.
Santa Maria Maddalena is a Romanesque church at Ossuccio, beside the old Via Regina.
It belonged to the Hospitalis of Stabio, which sheltered pilgrims and the poor.
Traditionally dated to the eleventh century, it is documented with the hospice in 1169. The single nave and apse retain Moltrasio stone walls, with small decorative arches beneath the roof. A late Gothic belfry was added to the Romanesque tower, probably in the fifteenth century. Frescoes from later periods survive inside. The former hospice complex houses the Antiquarium, with finds from excavations on Isola Comacina.
