Why go

Santi Martino e Agata is the parish church of the Borgo, the central part of Moltrasio.

The date of its building is uncertain, but a notarial deed records it as early as 1207.

The shaft of the bell tower keeps Romanesque remains; the building was altered in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and the tower was raised in the nineteenth. In 1935 the church was enlarged and given its front of local stone. Inside are paintings and stucco of different periods. The oldest frescoes, in the presbytery and in three medallions of the apse, date from the seventeenth century and are by the Recchi brothers; the side chapel of the relic of the Holy Thorn and the high altar have paintings by Giovan Mauro della Rovere, known as Fiammenghino. There is also the altarpiece painted by Alvise Donati in 1507.
