Why go

Villa Salterio Erker is a private residence on Moltrasio's lakeside road, associated with Vincenzo Bellini's stays.

It is also called Villa Durini, Villa Salterio and Villa Turina. The neoclassical building has a quadrangular plan, three floors and a central pediment facing the lake; an overhead passage links its garden to the shore. In 1829 the Cantù and Turina families, regular visitors to nearby Villa Passalacqua, rented the villa. Giuditta Cantù Turina spent long periods here during her relationship with Bellini. A plaque on the façade commemorates the composer and links the place to La straniera and La sonnambula. Nearby stands Massimo Clerici's Bellini monument, unveiled in 1997. The villa can be viewed from the road.
