Why go

Villa Turconi is a stone residence resembling a medieval castle, built in Lanzo between 1918 and 1923.

Leonardo Turconi commissioned it for his collection of 93 paintings. Painter Alberto Ferrero designed it with architect Aristide Conti. Vittorio Novi created sculptures, wrought ironwork and coloured stone inlays, directing local craftspeople. After Turconi, the villa passed to the Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano and then to the municipality. It hosts exhibitions and cultural events.

  • A castle-like villa built between 1918 and 1923, full of carved stone and wrought iron.
  • One of the Milanese middle class's summer villas at Lanzo.

Highlights

  • The tower and the stone fronts
  • Vittorio Novi's sculpture and wrought iron
  • The carved symbols: serpent, pomegranate, thistle, snail
  • The rooms where Turconi kept his 93 paintings

Getting there

  • It stands on Via Martino Novi at Lanzo d'Intelvi, part of Alta Valle Intelvi, a couple of hundred metres from the church of San Siro.
