Why go

The church of Santi Nazaro e Celso stands in Scaria's cemetery and retains parts of a Romanesque oratory probably dating from the eleventh century.

The bell tower with paired windows was added between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The chancel frescoes of 1516 are attributed to Giovanni Andrea De Magistris; those in the nave, signed by Giovanni Battista and Cipriano Tarilli, date from 1588. The outer portico, built in 1630 and decorated later, includes scenes from the life of Saint Martha. Inside is also a Last Supper inspired by Leonardo.

  • A Romanesque church thick with frescoes, a few hundred metres from Santa Maria and the Museo d'Arte Sacra.
  • The graveyard of the Carloni, Scaria's painters and stucco workers.
