How it works

The Sentiero Natura is a teaching trail in the hollow of the Piani d'Erna, right at the foot of the Resegone's walls, looking out over the town and the lake.

It is a loop of 6.5 kilometres with only 215 metres of climb, suitable for children and for anyone after a walk without too much effort; the highest point is the Pizzo d'Erna, at 1373 metres. Along the way twenty-one panels explain the mountain's world: the plants, with woods of beech and birch above all, the animals that live on these heights, the sedimentary rocks formed more than two hundred million years ago and the traces of the iron mines worked between the late eighteenth and the early nineteenth century. From the Piani d'Erna the view takes in Lecco, the lake and the mountains around.

  1. A loop of 6.5 kilometres and 215 metres of climb, about three hours on average; the highest point is the Pizzo d'Erna, at 1,373 metres. It suits children too.
  2. The start is Versasio, above Lecco, reached from the centre on bus no. 5 or by car to the cable car's car park at Via Prealpi 34.
  3. You go up to the Piani d'Erna by the cable car, which climbs to 1,300 metres in a few minutes, or on foot by path no. 1, in about two hours' walking.
  4. There are twenty-one panels along the way, on plants, animals, rocks and the old iron mines: a walk to take slowly, stopping to read.
