Why go

The church of San Lorenzo, probably built in the first half of the sixteenth century, stands at Segna, a small hamlet looking over the lake and Gravedona ed Uniti.

The apse frescoes were recorded by Bishop Ninguarda on his pastoral visit of 1593: the Coronation of the Virgin between Saints Lawrence, Anthony, Vincent and Nicholas of Tolentino, and the Virgin and Child between Saints Roch and Sebastian, very likely commissioned during an outbreak of plague. Restoration work has brought to light a Nursing Madonna.

  • The walls of the church and bell tower are of local stone, and the roof is covered with stone slabs.
  • The nave has a barrel vault over its first bay and a cross vault over the second.
  • The square bell tower rises on the east side of the church.
