Why go

San Sisinnio is a church of Romanesque origin in Muronico, part of Dizzasco, on the slope above Argegno.

Until 1632 it was the mother church of Argegno's parish. Reworked in the seventeenth century and completed in the eighteenth, it retains its Romanesque bell tower. A narthex, a covered porch, precedes the façade, where Bernardino Barelli of Ponna painted the patron saint. The single nave ends in an apse and has four side altars. Their frontals are seventeenth- and eighteenth-century polychrome scagliola, made by Intelvi craftsmen. Furnishings include inlaid furniture, a Renaissance tabernacle and reliquary busts of Saints Faustina and Liberata. In 1848 the church housed the provisional insurrection committee of the Valle d'Intelvi.

Getting there

  • The church is in Muronico, above Argegno. From the lakeside square, reach the medieval bridge and climb the Andrea Brenta steps, crossing the provincial road to the Valle d'Intelvi twice.
