Why go

Monte Bisbino, on the border between Italy and Switzerland, is 1,314 metres high; on the top are a sanctuary to the Blessed Virgin, a refreshment point and a small museum of local history.

A church up here is recorded from 1368; devotion grew in 1630, when during the plague the communities around climbed up in procession and vowed to return if they were spared. From the top you can see the lake, the mountains of Switzerland and, to the south, the plain.

  • The plague vow of 1630, when the communities around climbed up here in procession.
  • You get there by car or on foot, and the summit is on the Swiss border.

Highlights

  • The sanctuary of the Beata Vergine del Bisbino
  • The view over the Alps and the plain
  • The small museum of local history

Getting there

  • By car from Cernobbio through Rovenna, then the hairpin road that climbs to the sanctuary.
  • On foot from Cernobbio: about three hours and a little over a thousand metres of ascent, through Rovenna and up the mule track.
