Why go

Musso's Civic Historical Museum holds objects and documents on marble quarrying, the castle, silk and emigration from the village.

It stands in the centre near the lake and belongs to the municipality, with volunteers from the Musso Passato e Futuro association running it. The silkworm section opened in 2015 and displays prints and machinery used in silkworm breeding; the museum officially opened in 2017. Other rooms cover marble extraction and working, the history of the castle of Gian Giacomo Medici, known as the Medeghino, and emigration from the upper lake to the Americas and Europe. Photographs, drawings and tools connect the area's history with the occupations of its inhabitants.

  • Prints and machinery relating to silkworm breeding.
  • Collections on the marble quarries and the Medeghino's castle.
  • The section on emigration from the upper lake to the Americas and Europe.

Highlights

  • The section on the castle of Musso and the Medeghino
  • The prints and machinery for rearing silkworms
  • The village's marble quarries

Getting there

  • It is at Via Regina 18, in the middle of the village, a few steps from the lake. ASF Autolinee's C110 bus between Menaggio and Colico runs along the Regina road, and the boat calls at Musso.
