Tremezzina
The eighteenth-century palace of the Brentano Monticello family in the village of Bonzanigo, with frescoed ceilings attributed to Giulio Quaglio.
Palazzo Brentano was built in the eighteenth century by the Brentano Monticello family.
Some of its rooms have frescoed ceilings framed by plain stucco mouldings.
On the ground floor is the scene of Hercules rising to Olympus. This and the other paintings on the same floor are attributed to Giulio Quaglio because they closely resemble other works of his, above all the hall of Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia, where the same scene repeats several figures painted here. They were probably done in the same years as the vault of the parish church of Sant'Abbondio, a few steps away, which Quaglio painted in 1716. The palace stands on Via Fratelli Brentano in the village of Bonzanigo and now houses offices of the Comune. It is part of the itinerary of Giulio Quaglio's work in Bonzanigo and can be visited by booking.
