Why go

Sant'Abbondio is the parish church above the hamlet of Mezzegra, completed in 1724.

The complex also includes the bell tower and rectory, housed in the former twelfth-century Romanesque church.

The interior has a single hall with side chapels and a deep altar area ending in a semicircular apse. In 1716 Giulio Quaglio painted the Glory of the Virgin on the vault, surrounded by saints and prophets. He also painted the four Evangelists in the pendentives, the curved spaces linking the dome to its supporting arches. At the centre, the Trinity appears among clouds and angels above the Virgin and saints.

  • The vault painted by Giulio Quaglio in 1716, with the Trinity in a golden sky.
  • A Romanesque church and a Baroque one side by side, at the top of Mezzegra.
