Why go

San Giovanni is a church of medieval origin in upper Torno, with a marble portal attributed to the Rodari workshop.

The building was renewed in the late fifteenth century, as the dates 1494 and 1496 record. Transverse arches divide the single nave into six bays. The portal depicts saints, prophets, the Baptism of Jesus and the Annunciation. Inside are the Conversion of Saint Paul by Malosso and the Apostles by Vincenzo Campi. Tradition links the arrival of the Holy Nail relic to the First Crusade.

  • A Renaissance marble portal crowded with figures, on a square above the village.
  • From the Torno pier it is a ten-minute walk up.
