How it works

The Strada Regia is a paved mule track of some thirty kilometres up the eastern shore of the Como branch, from Brunate to Bellagio by way of Blevio, Torno, Faggeto, Pognana, Nesso and Lezzeno, between dry-stone walls and chestnut woods. The route was traced in Como's State Archive on the maps of the Theresian cadastre, of 1721, and of the Lombard-Venetian one, and was recovered between 2002 and 2006 by the Società Archeologica Comense with the Comunità Montana del Triangolo Lariano.

  1. Brunate to Bellagio. It can also be walked in pieces, village to village.
  2. The scheduled boat and the C130 bus make it possible to walk it in sections: get to one village, walk in one direction, and come back from the village where you stop.
  3. The Strada Regia is between thirty and thirty-five kilometres long. To work out the time it takes, count the climbing, not the kilometres.
  4. Proper walking shoes. The surface is uneven cobble and turns slippery when wet.
  5. Unlike the Greenway, it runs high up, with climbs and descents.
