Why go

San Leonardo is the parish church in central Malgrate, close to the lakefront.

The parish became independent of San Nicolò in Lecco in 1607.

Giuseppe Bovara remodelled the building between 1812 and 1815, creating its neoclassical façade; the doorway of 1607 survives. Inside is a single nave with a barrel vault and painted decoration, mostly by Antonio Sibella and Casimiro Radice in the late nineteenth century. The marble high altar dates from 1754. Above the entrance stands Giuseppe Serassi's organ, built between 1815 and 1818.

  • Giuseppe Bovara's Neoclassical front, in the heart of the village.
  • A few minutes' walk from the lakefront, on the walk from Lecco.
