Why go

The Beata Vergine del Fiume is a Baroque sanctuary in lower Mandello, with a portico in front of its yellow façade.

Local tradition links its origins to a seventeenth-century flood of the Meria: a sack of grain swept from a mill is said to have stopped before a Virgin and Child painted on a vineyard wall. Growing devotion to the image led to the sanctuary's construction, promoted by the archpriest Giovanni Battista Sambuca and funded by the community's alms and donations from local families. The interior retains gilded stucco, statues and frescoes.
