Why go

Brunate's Liberty and eclectic villas are holiday homes built between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

They stand along Via Pissarottino, Via Roma, Via Pirotta and Via Scalini. Below the funicular station, Villa Pirotta Bonacossa was designed in 1902 by Federico Frigerio for the industrialist Attilio Pirotta, with decoration by Lodovico Pogliaghi. Villa Cantaluppi Giuliani, built around 1910, has loggia balconies and ornament in cement, wrought iron, glass and ceramics. Villa Monti Ferrario Franceschini, the town hall, has sgraffito decoration on its façades. The Chalet Sonzogno was exhibited in Turin in 1902 and offered as a prize by the newspaper Il Secolo in 1904. Many villas are private homes, viewed from the street.

  • A stroll among the Liberty and eclectic villas, a few steps from the funicular.
