Pianello del Lario
Pianello's parish church a few metres from the lake, at Calozzo: born in the estate of the abbey of San Carpoforo, a parish since 1472, with its fifteenth-century bell tower, Isidoro Bianchi's frescoes, the tabernacle of 1536 and the house where Saint Luigi Guanella was parish priest.
San Martino is Pianello's parish church at Calozzo, near the lake and pier, with a columned portico and a fifteenth-century bell tower with a conical spire.
Probably early medieval in origin, it belonged to the abbey of San Carpoforo and became a parish in 1472. The Renaissance doorway bears the date 1534; the bronze door shows eight scenes from Blessed Chiara Bosatta's life. The single nave holds the sixteenth-century triptych of the Virgin between Saints Anthony Abbot and Bernard, Isidoro Bianchi's apse frescoes and the marble tabernacle of 1536 by Bernardino Chatanio de Saliana. The processional cross of 1489 is by Francesco Ser Gregori. Saint Luigi Guanella lived in the adjoining parish house as parish priest from 1881 to 1890; a chapel is dedicated to him.
