Why go

Vercana's parish church is dedicated to God the Saviour and looks out over the lake from the slope above Domaso.

It dates from the fifteenth century but was reworked several times in the centuries after, up to its present Baroque appearance. It has frescoes attributed to D. Caresana of Lugano and his son, and others by Antonio Maria Caraccioli, born in Vercana, who emigrated to Palermo in 1770. In the apse are Silva's large statues of angels, prophets and evangelists and Giovan Battista Pozzo's Stories of the Passion with Sibyls and Prophets.

  • The organ was built in 1845 by Livio Tornaghi, who reused some pipes from a 1730 organ by Giuseppe Serassi.
  • On the left wall of the presbytery hangs a canvas of the Gathering of the Manna, attributed to a painter from central Italy.
  • The bell tower holds five bells cast in 1967 by Achille Mazzola of Valduggia.
