Why go

The sanctuary was founded in 1630, when the plague ended, at the unanimous wish of the survivors, in devotion to the Madonna and in thanks to God.

A small chapel already stood on the spot with a fifteenth-century image of the Virgin, which now hangs above the high altar. The main works took three years, and the sanctuary was opened on 5 August 1634; it was embellished and completed in the following century. It stands high up, overlooking the upper lake. Above the doorway is a fresco of the Virgin and Child.
