Dongo's sanctuary, with the Last Supper and Crucifixion groups carved in wood in the seventeenth century by Fra Diego Giurati.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Lacrime in Dongo holds seventeenth-century wooden sculpture groups and an image of the Virgin and Child venerated since the sixteenth century.
Devotion to the image is linked to the tradition of its weeping on 6 September 1553. The church has a single nave with four side chapels and frescoes by Gian Domenico Caresana of 1599 and Andrea Gabasio of 1603. In 1649 Father Daniele Cassonio brought Fra Diego Giurati to Dongo; he carved the seven statues in the Chapel of the Crucifix and the thirteen figures of the Last Supper. The venerated image is on the eighteenth-century high altar of coloured marbles. Franciscan friars settled in the adjoining convent in 1614.
